DASTAN GALLERY

Dastan (est. 2012 by Hormoz Hematian, Tehran) started as Dastan’s Basement and dedicated itself to representing the new generation of Iranian artists. From the outset, Dastan found considerable potential in contemporary Iranian art and used its growing reach to provide young artists with opportunities to do a wide range of experiments. In 2015, Dastan +2 opened as a standard exhibition space hosting shows of established Iranian twentieth-century and contemporary art. Since its early stages, in order to constantly develop new potentials, Dastan has availed itself of other sites —labelled as Dastan: Outside— where it has organized innovative art exhibitions. These venues include Sam Art, Shirin Confectionary, V-Gallery and most recently Electric Room and Manouchehri House’s Gallery (Kashan).

“Air of the Land”

This show includes a recent series of photography by Mehran Mohajer. The exhibition also features a publication on this series of works. The artist writes: “These are photographs of the earth and of the sky. These photographs are suspended over the earth and under the sky. These are small fragments of the earth and of the sky. Might they utter a word on the sky or on the earth. Might they ask of the sky or of the earth. Might the sky turn the earth to a better state, and might the earth go round and turn our mood around. And suffice it to say.”

“Tales of Interdisciplinia: The Curious Company of a Very Long Tail”

“Tales of Interdisciplinia: The Curious Company of a Very Long Tail”, is the result of two years of collaboration between drawing artist, painter and animation artist Shokoofeh Khoramroodi and performance artist, choreographer and researcher Taba Fajrak. An introduction to this project, “Memebrain” (December 2017), was the 19th project at Electric Room’s 50-project program.
